Eduventures Continuing and Professional Education Learning Collaborative

CPEThe Eduventures Continuing and Professional Education Learning Collaborative (CPE-LC) is our first and largest Learning Collaborative. Since 2004, the member-based research consortium has been helping universities and colleges identify new revenue and growth opportunities, improving organizational and operational performance, and staying abreast of leading management practices within the continuing and professional education community. The CPE-LC provides insight and direction to identify best management practices, benchmark performance, and improve core processes through research, analysis, and networking opportunities.

The CPE-LC provides Collaborative Research, Custom Analysis, and opportunities for interactions with our analysts and decision-makers at peer institutions. Research is organized into seven themes: programs and markets; operations and organizational design; marketing and recruitment; consumer preferences; non-credit programming; online and hybrid delivery; and employer markets.

Recent and upcoming Collaborative Research topics include:

Benchmarking and Profiling CPE Operations
This benchmarking survey of members will create a database and series of deliverables that describe and profile the CPE-LC membership in aggregate. The goal of this member data set will be to facilitate and inform benchmarking and peer identification, as well as assist in forecasting and strategic planning by profiling patterns in the membership’s institutional and unit characteristics, staffing models, program portfolio and enrollment data, and customer segments of special focus.

Deepening Our Understanding of the Adult Learner’s Decision-Making Process
This survey-based market research study will deepen and extend the findings from the CPE-LC’s past Assessing Consumer Preferences surveys by providing a more in-depth exploration of adult learners’ behaviors and educational decision-making, with the goal of establishing a market segmentation that can be employed by members. The study will explore detailed questions along with key dynamics of interest to CPE-LC members, beyond just collecting descriptive data about adult learners and their preferences. The study is anticipated to address issues such as pricing, alternative and accelerated program formats, barriers to enrolling in online courses, and what specific sources and media channels shape adult learners’ awareness and enrollment decisions and at what stages.

Online Marketing: Benchmarks in Online Lead Generation and Enrollment Marketing Performance
Online marketing is accounting for a rapidly growing portion of CPE-LC members’ marketing budgets and time. Yet, there exist very few benchmarks and very little information on the use and performance of online marketing channels. This study will offer a deep look at where, within the online landscape, CPE-LC members are focusing their efforts; why those areas merit focus; what level of performance certain channels and tactics are delivering; and what key opportunities and challenges exist.
